Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody
Freddie Mercury was the quintessential rock star. Handling luggage at the airport in London, Freddie knew he was destined for bigger and better things. When their lead singer quits, Freddie takes over as the front man for the rock band, Queen, who skyrocket to worldwide fame. But it comes at a cost as it takes a toll on his relationship with girlfriend, Mary, as he explores his sexual identity and the darker side of fame and fortune. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

· Freddie is proposing to Mary and gives her a ring. She takes the ring out of the box and puts it on the ring finger on her left hand. The others suddenly burst in and Roger is saying, “your phone’s off the hook”, the ring can be seen on her middle finger.

· Mary is watching the video of the crowd singing “Love of My Life”. In the close-up of her, Mary’s left arm is up with her hand near her face. The scene cuts to a different view when Freddie comments, “all singing to you”, and Mary’s arm/hand is down. It cuts back to the original view and her arm is up and stays that way until she moves.

· Mary visits Freddie after not being able to get in touch with him. After she tells him she’s pregnant, Mary runs through the rain and gets in the taxi. Her hair is slight wet at first. Freddie says he’s frightened and there’s a close-up of Mary when she replies, “Freddie, you don’t need to be”. In this view, her hair is dripping wet.

· Jim, Mary and David are standing off stage, near the gear boxes, in front of Freddie while Queen performs at Live Aid. A quick view when he reaches for his microphone, shows they’re not there.

· Did You Know… The film depicts Brian May coming up with the idea of “We Will Rock You” sometime in 1980. The song was on Queen’s album “News of the World” released in 1977.

· Did You Know… The film depicts animosity in the band when Freddie decides to go solo. Roger Taylor was the first member of Queen to go solo when he released his record, “Fun in Space”, in 1981. Freddie’s first solo record didn’t come out until 1985 with the release of “Mr. Bad Guy”.

· Did You Know… The movie depicts Queen as broken up before Live Aid and Freddie telling the rest of the band about his HIV diagnosis during rehearsals for their performance. Queen had just finished touring in support of their album “The Works” just a couple months prior to the performance. While Live Aid took place in 1985, most reports suggest Freddie didn’t know of his HIV status until April 1987.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018) stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Allen Leech, Tom Hollander and Mike Myers. It runs 134 minutes and is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, suggestive material, drug content and language.
